For the good growth and increase of production, fertilizer is used which is usually a substance that is chemical-based or natural and it is applied to the soil or the plant. For the plants to grow, they need water, carbon dioxide, and sunlight. For the plants to grow well, they require nutrients that are macronutrients and micronutrients which are produced by the fertilizers. The important nutrients are considered to be mineral nutrients and are usually absorbed by the plants through the soil. Nutrients being taken in is affected by several factors and that is either the type of soil, the weeds or the pests.
Fertilizers are usually very helpful because they supply important nutrients to the plants that are for balanced growth. There are various ways in which the fertilizers are helpful to the foliage and soil and that is through yielding of the plants, promoting the condition of the soil, disease resistance as well as increase in productivity. Some factors contribute to the good utilization of the nutrients that have been taken in by the plants. The factors that contribute a lot to the effectiveness of the nutrients include the type of plants that are grown, the organic content of the soil, availability of the moisture and rainfall, soil acidity and also the existing nutrients that are in the soil.
Fertilizers get to differ in varieties in that they are those that are organic and those that artificial. The good thing with artificial fertilizers is that they are specifically made to supply specific nutrients to specific crops and they are made up of macronutrients. In the manufacturing artificial fertilizers, the nutrients are usually very concentrated and they are later converted into a compound in which a plant can easily absorb. There are plants that cannot take the nutrients quickly and most of them would use readily absorbed nutrients in which they are water-soluble and will get in through the soil to waterways.
But with organic fertilizers, they are usually substances that at a certain period they were living for instance manure, crop residues, and even leaf litters. With organic fertilizers, the nutrients are not usually readily available to plants as artificial fertilizers hence they need conversion so that they can be easily absorbed to the plants. The conversion of the inorganic fertilizers is done by the naturally occurring soil fungi, beneficial bacteria and various animals for instance arthropods, earthworms, and beneficial bacteria. With the conversion, it gets to improve the soil condition. Some soils are very deficient and therefore need fertilizers and it is important to know the type of fertilizer that can improve the condition of the soil. For the good production of the crops, there is a need to consider using fertilizers.
